From it in the post-classical period was formed the verb rememorārī ‘recall to mind’, which passed into English via Old French remembrer.

Meaning "recall to mind" is late 14c.; sense of "to mention" is from 1550s. Also in Middle English "to remind" (someone). An Anglo-Saxon verb for it was gemunan.
